Anytone AT-5555, Maas DX-5000, K-PO DX-5000, Intek HR-5500, Superstar 6900N, CRE 8900 – rings any bells? Inside – and in most cases outside – they’re all the same 10 meters all-mode radios.
Then there’s the Anytone AT-5888UV, also sold under the names Intek and CRT.
Anytone’s 588 series of mono-band radios can be found under various names too. Just a few: Anytone, Dynascan, TYT, Zastone,
Wouxun isn’t picky either, selling their KG-UVD1P hand-held to a number of other companies, who in turn stick on their own name. Midland is a well-known variety here in Europe.
Even the KG-UV920R/P can now be found under other names, such as Dynascan. The good thing about this Spanish version: SO-239 has been replaced by N.
Bottom line: Chinese brand names aren’t worth anything and don’t mean anything. Therefore I agree with Brick O’Lore, who recently posted about this. The stickers on the front or back are irrelevant, inside they’re completely identical.

Here we go again – the Chinese are determined to be the world’s leader in all goods for all nations! This crap is just the start of taking over the #1 economic spot in the world economy.
If it was cr*p I don’t think they would be where they are today, it proves you don’t need to focus on a name to sell your goods, Just excellent innovation and ideas to move your product forward and of course the right price always helps!
I feel sorry for Western companies because there is no way back. 😦 But is that their own fault for being too greedy in the first place?

This looks interesting: 10m (and maybe 12m too?)
MAXLOG M-8800

Nate.
Internally the Maxlog is the same radio. It just looks more modern, and the higher price tag reflects this. I intend to review one of those 10-11-12 meter radios soon (probably the SS 6900N Version 6).
It is possible to programme the AT-5555 for 12m as well (in fact you could conceivably enter any frequency at all), but the further from 11/10m you programme it the more you pull it away from the band for which it is set up. I’m sure I read a warning somewhere not to try transmitting above 30MHz – not simply because it is illegal but because of potential damage to the rig. Correct me if I’m wrong, someone.
I have a Superstar SS6900N here now, interesting thing. It’s on the test bench right now.
I read recently that Qixiang is rumoured to have sold the manufacturing rights of the AT-5555 to another company?
The name game continues!

Hahaha! No, but it was a nice example to start the article with.
