Sometimes I hate all the new modern toys we have. Computers, cell phones, weather stations and even electronic boilers: they all generate interference. It doesn’t make life easier for a HAM. Nowadays you will need sophisticated filters and DSP systems in order to make a weak signal readable. Oh, sometimes I think back of the good old days! The worst problem you could encounter was a strong ‘out of band’ signal, such as Radio Moscow. Some preselection and a bit of attenuation did the trick.
Also the opposite is true, funny enough. My new Nikon F75, although an oldfashioned analog SLR, has quite some electronics on board. In the manual is mentioned that the camera may fail if strong radio signals are present. Sigh. No QSO’s while making pictures.
